ALTREFRONTIERE
DANCE FESTIVAL
7th EDITION | FRICTION EDITION
Altrefrontiere was born from the desire to give visibility to a concentration of different but compatible energies in the international context of dance, apparently distant but united by the constant research through body language.
It is the idea of breaking down borders; being that the boundaries of the body and the mind, or those of a country or his culture.
Body language communicates without words, it is a universal language that can bring everyone together, like music.
This festival starts with the desire to share and exchange, with the aim of expanding the information about the many methods of investigation and to have an ever wider view of the creative panorama of dance.
Variety is nothing but growth.
Knowledge and exchange are precious tools for our inner growth.

FRICTION EDITION 2026
The seventh edition of Altrefrontiere is dedicated to Friction.
Friction as tension, attrition, contrast. As rapid rubbing that releases accumulation, as opposition that generates consistency and volume, as a binding system capable of regulating engine speed.
This year's festival brings to light the admitting of choice, change and realisation: if we have set ourselves in motion, it is time to choose the speed and assume the direction. If we are ready to listen to the surrounding frequencies, the friction between solid bodies merges into the generation of a constant and harmonious rhythm - just as the rubbing of two stones leads to the ignition of fire.
Fire is light, which makes visible what could not be seen. It is heat, which breaks the freeze of isolation and rounds out shapes. It is transformation, which changes the state of past remains, preparing the ground for rebirth.
When fire becomes flame, there is no more smoke.

The seventh edition will take place from
19 July al 1 August 2026
Altrefrontiere was born in 2019 in Rome as a collaboration between White Cloud Studio Roma, White Cloud Opera and D.M.A. Teatrodanza.
Since 2021 it is being hosted by Agriturismo Podere 153, a peaceful oasis in Maremma, Tuscany (locality Ripacci, Scansano): ALTREFRONTIERE thus becomes the Italian summer intensive welcoming dancers from all over the world, bringing them together in the midst of nature and offering them the best of contemporary dance.
Every year, for a period of two weeks, the programme includes technique classes and researched practices, improvisation and composition workshops and performances open to the public with the support of internationally renowned invited artists.
Today, Altrefrontiere, besides being a Dance Festival, is a human experience, where collectivity and exchange merge with nature.
